Ideal Systems × Spotguard

Stolen doesn’t mean lost.

An invisible radio beacon in your car, boat or machinery. When thieves silence GPS, Spotguard keeps transmitting, and a search team finds it.

An empty car park on a foggy night.

Today’s vehicle thieves are professionals. They bypass alarms, jam GPS, swap the plates and have the car out of the country within hours. Spotguard is the one thing they can’t silence.

How it works

One night in Riga.

A theft in Teika and nine kilometres of night streets to the port. Here is why it ends differently when the car carries Spotguard.

© OpenStreetMap contributors
  1. 02:14

    The car leaves the driveway.

Professionals need only minutes, and they don’t need your key.

  2. 02:16

    The jammer goes on.

GPS and GSM are drowned out. An ordinary tracker goes blind and mute, and all the map keeps is the spot where it went quiet.

  3. 02:31

    Spotguard keeps transmitting.

It runs on its own battery, independent of the car’s electronics. Its radio beacon keeps sending a signal that dedicated receivers pick up.

  4. 04:50

    The search closes in.

The operations centre in Norway coordinates the team. Receivers in a search car and a drone each take a bearing on the signal. Where the bearings cross, that’s the car.

  5. 06:05

    Found. Recovered.

The car is found in a container at the port, before it can leave the country. The police return it to its owner.

Try it yourself

Switch on the jammer.

It’s exactly what thieves do. Watch what happens to each signal.

  • GPS SignalNo signal

    Satellites fix the position.

  • GSM / 4G SignalNo signal

The mobile network sends the position to the app.

  • Spotguard RF beacon Transmitting

An independent radio signal that searchers pick up on site.

All signals are up. Now switch on the jammer.GPS and GSM fall silent, so an ordinary tracker stops reporting. Spotguard’s radio beacon keeps transmitting, and the search team finds it.

Spotguard Plus 4G

What the device does for you

  • Up to 5 years.

On a single battery, reporting once a day. Nothing to charge, nothing to wire.

  • Zero wires.

It isn’t connected to the vehicle’s electrics, so cutting wires or removing the car battery won’t stop it.

  • IP67.

    Dust- and water-resistant. Works from −20 °C to +60 °C.

  • 82 × 80 × 22 mm, 115 g.

Smaller than your palm, so it hides almost anywhere.

  • Four satellite systems.

GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou, plus 4G LTE-M with 2G fallback.

  • Moving? You’ll know.

The built-in G-sensor can report the moment the vehicle starts to move.

  • A different spot in every car.

With no wiring needed, it can go where a thief won’t think to look.

Four Range Rovers in four days

Between 7 and 10 September, four stolen Land Rover Range Rovers were recovered, three of them on false plates. A Lithuanian-registered truck was stopped at the Swedish port of Kapellskär. One of the cars had no tracker. It was found thanks to the Spotguard in another of the stolen cars.

Frequently asked questions

Didn’t find your answer? Write to us

Can a thief switch the device off?

Spotguard isn’t connected to the vehicle’s electrical system and runs on its own battery, so cutting wires or disconnecting the car battery won’t stop it. A jammer can block the GSM signal for a while, but it can’t hide the radio waves: a search team with a receiver picks them up on site.

How is Spotguard different from a regular GPS tracker?

A GPS tracker (MINI) shows where your vehicle is and is handy every day. Spotguard is built for theft: it adds a radio-frequency transmitter, its own battery and an international search service with teams on the ground. TOTALGUARD combines both.

How long does the battery last?

The Spotguard Plus 4G battery lasts up to 5 years when the device reports once a day. More frequent reporting or low temperatures shorten that.

What if it’s taken out of Latvia?

The international search service is included in the price. Searches are coordinated by GS Fleet’s operations centre in Norway and run across Europe and Scandinavia.

Does Spotguard help with CASCO insurance?

Yes. Spotguard is recognised by leading insurers, and you can declare it when buying a CASCO policy. Ask your insurer about the specific terms.

What’s included in the price?

Plans are billed yearly and cover the services listed. For SPOTGUARD and TOTALGUARD that includes the international search service. Installation is a one-time €90.
